Welcome to Bundle Bumps.
This blog is my personal chronicle of trying to conceive a bun in the oven through having a bundle of joy. Problem is, I'm fighting infertility.

Finally Starting Fertility Treatment!

Fertility wise, the last few months have felt like I've been snared in a whirlpool.  I've been caught in a current, flowing in circles, slowly heading in a downward direction, trying not to fall into a depression.  Waiting, waiting, waiting.  Waiting for answers.  Waiting for action.  Waiting to do something to get me pregnant.  I'm sure I am only being impatient, but wouldn't you be after a year and a half of trying to conceive?

Yesterday morning the clouds parted and all my waiting paid off!

When I first saw Dr. King two months ago, he suggested that I get my progesterone levels checked because the hormone progesterone is important to achieve and sustain a pregnancy.  By looking at my BBT charts he suspected I was dealing with low levels and that is why I haven't gotten pregnant yet.  A week after ovulation, I went in for a blood test.  A week after that, when I got my period, I called the clinic for the results.  Just as he had guessed my progesterone was low.  I had a level of 9.3.  He likes it to be around 15 or more.  He suggested I get tested again next cycle to see if it repeats.

Another whole cycle went by.  A week after ovulation I went in for my blood draw and called the clinic when I got my period.  One of his nurses and I played phone tag all last week because I have been working unpredictable hours, and they cannot leave personal information on my voice mail.  I became so sick of hearing the message "Hi, this is Jane from the clinic at Eglin. I'll call you back at a later time".  I for real have at least 15 of these messages.  Bless her heart.

Yesterday morning I walked in to the clinic and met with Jane.  She confirmed that my progesterone level was low again at 9.2.  I asked what I could do about it.  Jane said the next step that Dr. King likes to do is prescribe Clomid, which is an ovulation inducing drug and may help boost my progesterone.  She asked what cycle day I was on and I was already on day 5.  Clomid must be taken on specific cycle days to be most effective and is usually taken days 5 through 9.  I am thankful that God allowed me to go in yesterday, because the timing couldn't have been more perfect.  Janet called Dr. King, who was about to go into surgery, and got the OK to prescribe me Clomid.  Jane had another doctor write the prescription for Dr. King so I could start the treatment that day.  I picked up my pills at the pharmacy and took my first dose last night!  I am so excited and so hopeful that it will work.

I plan on updating with a Clomid post in the next few days.

  1. Let me know how it goes! It's been five months officially for Josh and I, and I haven't even had a period since January. I've been off of birth control before and had them like normal (erratic, for me, is normal, but usually within a few weeks) and am confirmed via doctor's office tests as not pregnant. I went in yesterday to talk with the doctor and he suspects PCOS and has scheduled me an ultrasound and all kinds of bloodwork. I REALLY REALLY hope it's something treatable.

I'm so glad that I've had your entries to read, Chelli, because it really does help to know that you've gone through so much already. <3 and good luck!

  2. Good luck with the treatment! I do hope that everything goes well and you can hold that bundle of joy soon. My advice for you is to be patient with the treatment. You might go through some hurdles with the process, but you have to keep your eyes on the goal. Keep us posted!
